A young, injured elephant could no longer keep up with its family, so they were forced to leave it behind. Then, a pride of lions discovered it all alone, and the helpless elephant could do nothing but stand against the bites and scratches for over an hour!
On the beautiful Sweni gravel road (S126) near Satara, MJ and his wife were on their way back to camp from a safari, when they spotted lions in the distance!
“We stopped and could see they were feeding on something.” But it was far out, and what they hadn’t realized yet, was that the lions were on top of an elephant! A live elephant…
When the elephant got up, it was easy to notice that it had an injured, possibly broken leg. This is what likely caused it to become separated from its family in the first place.
Back on its feet, the elephant felt hopeful, and it was going to do all it could to stay up! However, the lions matched the young ellie’s energy with relentlessness! They jumped on its back and bit at the poor elephant, time after time!
The Elephant’s Harsh Fate
This went on until the elephant completely exhausted itself over an hour later! Then, with nothing left to give, the elephant collapsed once more. Only this time, the lions made sure to seal the deal, and the elephant wouldn’t be getting up again!
